Many of our guests have been kind enough to contact us after their holiday to let us know about their experience. Some are returning visitors who fell in love with Ardnamurchan years ago and some have experienced for the first time the unique qualities that this location brings. Thank you to all who took the trouble to get in touch, your comments are very much appreciated. Here is a short selection which will hopefully give you some inspiration if you are considering a holiday on the peninsula!
Hi Allan and Fiona
Just to let you know, we have had a fabulous week, despite the weather, and the cottage and location lived up to all expectations. Being disturbed at 10.00pm by the outside light coming on and being confronted by a herd of Red Deer wandering past the lounge window is a memory that will live with me forever!!
Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful with the fishing, having tried marks to the left and right of the pontoon and even off the pontoon itself. However, my disappointment was more than compensated by observing otters, porpoises and seals whilst spinning.
Managed a couple of expeditions out in my kayak and had a fantastic early morning “sail” on a totally calm sea, bathed in sunshine, around Risga.
Had some wonderful days out, most notably Sanna Bay in a Force 7 – 8 gale. Incredible seascape and huge waves. We also managed a walk along the shores of Loch Moidart, from Tioram Castle. Stunning scenery, but got absolutely soaked! I would also recommend all of the Sunart Woodland Walks, especially the one east of Salen to the wonderfully named Bay of the Flies.
Gathered a load of mussels and after spending half an our cleaning them up, I cooked them in Garlic, Parsley and Wine. Fortunately, I took notice of your advice and did not bite straight in, as the first one was full of pearls. The rest were not too bad, but, a lot of hard work!!
Anyway, 7.00am start tomorrow for our long drive home to Lincolnshire. Many thanks for letting us share this wonderful place, we will definitely return again.

Dear Allan & Fiona
To-day we are leaving the cottage and heading home. It has been absolutely wonderful. We have all enjoyed our stay so much. The weather has been very kind. Today again we have a very heavy frost and clear blue skies. Mel and I have just returned from the end of the pontoon. We saw the otter out have a wee swim to himself/herself. It definitely has a residence on the promontory to the right of the pontoon as you look out the sitting room window. What an amazing neighbour to have.
On Monday we went to Loch Mudle for a walk with the dogs. We saw a herd of deer just up from the road side - mostly stags. The weather was dry but cool with cloud cover. At night the skies cleared and we saw lots of stars - Al has taken some photographs which I will email to you shortly. In fact Kat and Al lay on the front lawn to have a better view and saw shooting stars and on the next night saw a meteor (Al thinks it was possibly space debris burning up in the atmosphere).

Hi Allan,
Just a short note as we all felt that we should make a small complaint about our week at Loch View Cottage. As soon as we can think of something to complain about we will e-mail you !!!
We all agreed that a week wasn't long enough and will probably book for a longer period next time we come to stay. Gill and I fell in love with Glen Sheil, don't look for it on a map, its a malt whisky. Highly recommended.
Aha I have found a reason for complaint...... You should have ordered us to stay longer not just ask if we wanted to!
Very Best Wishes

Hi Allan & Fiona
We had a fantastic week. The house was great, you seem to have thought of everything (we took a lot of things with us that we needn't have bothered with), and the location is simply magnificent. The kids had a ball, enjoying even tasks like re-filling the log baskets for the wood burner (the sort of thing you'd have to battle with them to do at home!). They fished, kayaked, played on their bikes, fed and spotted birds, deer and pine marten (never saw it but a small tub of peanut butter and jam disappeared completely), explored the "island" out front, played in the burn, cycled to the playpark and this was all just outside the door.
Went up to Tioram Castle on Friday afternoon as it was such a nice day, witnessed a number of sea eagles. Followed by carrot cake at the visitor centre. Earlier in the day I'd paddled up the coast a bit then back down, around Risga (followed all the way by a seal) and onwards to the high rocks to fish for a bit . As I approached the rocks an otter emerged from the water with a fish, killed it on the rocks and ate it while I sat in the kayak no more than six feet away. It only saw me once it had finished and barked at me and slid back into the water…fantastic sight (couldn’t get my camera out quickly enough from my inside pocket beneath life vest / spray-deck). It really was the most beautiful day and it was a great week of wildlife spots. We had several seal and otter sightings both at close quarters and at distance, I saw two porpoises off Carna on the Monday morning and watched them for about an hour while fishing
Best regards

Hi Allan & Fiona,
As we approach our final day, just one word sums up the last 2 weeks here at Loch View Cottage - FANTASTIC!
Heather and I know the area reasonably well, having been to Ardnamurchan several times over the years - in fact we remember lunching at the hotel next door many moons ago before we had children (our daughter is now 27 and our son 24 and they both came with us on holiday this time with their respective partners and all were duly impressed)
The cottage is superb - truly comfortable with everything you need. The bonus for me however, as a self-employed marketing consultant whose clients don't expect, or want, you to take a break, is the added facilities of broadband and a landline. It meant that I could transport the office, lock stock and barrel and carry on 'business as usual' from Loch View. But what an 'office'! I'm sitting here, writing this, with spectacular views, waiting for the next deer to pay us a visit!!
Alan & Sian next door have also been very helpful.
Thank you for providing such a teriffic facility, and if you'll have us, we'd certainly like to come again. (Heather's already trying to persuade me to come for a month next time!!!)
With very best wishes
Heather and Trevor Hargreaves, Swanley
Thanks to all for keeping in touch. It means a lot to us to discover that there are other people who feel as passionately as we do about the area. Allan and Fiona.
